About this calc
Your BMR is the energy your body needs at complete rest. Uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula (the most accurate for most adults).
FAQ
- What's the Mifflin-St Jeor formula?
- Men: 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age + 5. Women: same, minus 161. It's the most accurate widely-used BMR formula for healthy adults.
- Is BMR the same as RMR?
- Close, but not identical. BMR is measured at complete rest right after waking. RMR (resting metabolic rate) is measured under less strict conditions and tends to read ~10% higher.
- Why does my BMR drop with age?
- Lean tissue loss and reduced cellular activity. A 60-year-old typically burns ~5% fewer at-rest calories than a 30-year-old of the same size.
